Some of the perks of being a sponsor are free tickets to awesome shows. And I am lucky to get one for a musical play in Resorts World Manila. Thank God I work for Airborne Technologies! πŸ˜€

Me and My Date πŸ™‚

Before 8PM, I was at the New Port Performing Theater and as expected, the play started on time. I have a humble background on theater as I have been the director of our blockbuster musical play for Theater Arts class. But I am no professional. Let me just share you my thoughts about this entertaining musical about the adventures of three drag artists featuring a powerhouse cast (Jon Santos, Red Concepcion, and Michael Williams) – Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Basically it is a story of a transexual, a gay who had an affair with a lady and had a kid, and a gay. They hit the road from Sydney to Alice Springs on an old bus they called Priscilla. They wentΒ on a journey of friendship, where they discovered more about dreams, life and happiness as they encountered different kinds of people along the way.

I could say the play was flamboyant. It had unlimited array of costumes, extraordinary headdresses, artistic backdrops, led background that enhanced the setting feel, and what struck me too was their customized bus. This play had a wide collection of props! I could just imagine how big the backstage could be!

The performers were all awesome! Energy was consistent and no one was left behind. The disco songs I remembered on their performances were I Love The Night Life, Boogie Wonderland, It’s Raining Men, Venus, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Shake Your Groove Thing, Hot Stuff, and of course, I will survive. The audience was very happy dancing and singing along with the performers. It was indeed a successful show. The only glitch I noticed was one of the lead role’s lapel stopped working on two scenes. But these technical problems are uncontrollable but could be fixed, and they did.

Oh! Wait a minute. Hahaha! πŸ˜€

According to my research, Priscilla is a 1994 Australian comedy-drama film written and directed by Stephan Elliott. It was influential in introducing LGBT themes in mainstream audience but has also been criticized for perceived racist and sexist stereotyping. They used the word β€œqueen” as a slang term for male homosexual.

So that’s it on my duty today as a theater play critic. Hahaha! I personally enjoyed the show and clapped after each and every scene. I missed my theater days and my theater family. Wondering if there would be another chance that I could direct another play. But thanks to Airborne Technologies for the freebie! Looking forward to the next chance I’ll get a free ticket to a show. πŸ˜€
