Let’s admit it, serving kids with plain water, instead of sweetened or flavored drinks, is quite an uphill battle for parents. It’s probably one of the main factors on the growing rate in children obesity from age 0-10 years old here in the Philippines. And yes, the consumption of processed foods can also be attributed alongside with that.
But here’s a fact: Water is better than any other drink alternative.
And building on the habit of drinking water earlier on will also help kids develop the good foundations of healthy eating. Here are 5 good reasons why moms like me with little tots should encourage them to drink water more:
1. STAY HYDRATED
The body loses about eight cups of water evey day. This lost water needs to be replaced to avoid discomforts such as nausea, headaches, muscle cramps, and ultimately dehydration. Sweetened drinks don’t really rehydrate the body as efficiently as water. In fact, they make the body lose more water by stimulating urine production. So, when it comes to water replenishment, nothing beats water!
2. MAINTAIN HEALTHY WEIGHT
Sugary drinks are loaded with calories and of course, sugar. Studies have found links to prevalent child obesity and flavored drinks, which is why some schools have mandated bans on such. If you want your child to maintain a healthy weight, limit their intake of sweetened drinks and get them to opt for water to quench their thirst.
3. AVOID TOOTH DECAY
Sugary drinks make it easy for bacteria to grow inside the mouth. Bacteria feed on the sugar and create enamel-damaging acids in the process. Water, on the other hand, has natural elements that strengthen the teeth, making them less susceptible to damage from plaque and sugars.
4. PROMOTE GOOD APPETITE
Consuming too much sweetened drinks has shown to affect a kid’s appetite. If a healthy diet is top priority, make sure they only consume sugary drinks occassionally, and more importantly to establish water as the first choice when they are thirsty!
5. WATER IS HEALTHY & INEXPENSIVE
On top of it being calorie-free and with tons of health benefits, water is inexpensive compared to sweetened or flavored drinks, right?
Now, if you are one of the many moms who are having a hard time getting their kids to drink some water, here’s a good news!
Absolute Distilled Drinking Water, in collaboration with The Walt Disney Company Philippines, launched their Disney edition bottles to promote a “healthily ever after” for kids in its latest hydration campaign. The use of Disney characters will create an element of fun and excitement, to encourage kids and build on the habit of drinking water regularly.
The Disney bottles comes in different characters: Disney Princesses (Belle, Snow White, Frozen sisters Anna and Elsa), as well as other iconic Disney characters Mickey and Minnie, Lightning McQueen, and father and son tandem Marlin and Nemo. They are on cute 250ml sized bottles for kids to enjoy and to easily bring with them especially for their baon.

Ysha has been exceptionally excited about drinking water since I started giving her Absolute Disney kiddie water bottles.

Here are some tips to encourage your kids to love drinking water:
- Educate them on its benefits and how it functions in their bodies

- Make drinking water a fun occassion for the family
- Be a good example

Love,
Momma Nish
Your little girl sure loves Absolute. 🙂 My son is not a fan of water unless I track his daily intake. Maybe these cute bottles will help me and won’t have to remind him everyday to drink lots of water.
I agree to that! These Disney bottles really made my little girl excited to drink water. 😄 could work for your son too. 👍🏻
Kids really need to drink a lot of water – especially now that it’s summer. Thankfully I don’t have a problem with mine when it comes to drinking H20!
Such lucky moms we are then! ☺️ I know lots of moms having a hard time getting their kids to drink pure water. 😅
I agree, water is the best! Good thing my kids are not fond of sodas and powdered juices.
Lucky for you, mommy! Lots of moms have had a hard time getting their kids to drink water for they were already into powdered juices. I hope mine will grow up loving pure drinking water too.
Drinking water is very important, all the more now that it’s summer and the days are getting hotter. Your daughter sure loves her Absolute Disney kiddie water bottles – her smile says it all. 🙂
Totally agree! Our family’s water consumption has doubled this month for the hot weather! Really glad my daughter does love drinking water from her Absolute Disney bottles.
I saw these bottles at the grocery store, they are size cute. They made it look fun to drink for the kids. My 8 and 9 yr old kids love to baon it for school instead of their usual juice drink. 🙂
That’s nice to know, mommy Joy! Hoping my little girl would love to bring water for baon too instead of juice or choco drinks.
I encourage my kids to drink water as much as possible. My water intake drastically increased when I started working out. I used to have a problem with remembering to drink water and that’s one of the reason I eventually had to have my gallbladder removed. These cute bottles will for sure make it more enticing for kids top drink. Are there superhero ones though?
Sorry to hear about the operation, but I’m glad your water intake is better now mommy. Absolute only offers Disney characters at the moment, but superheroes on the packaging is a great idea too!
Ang cute ng Absolute packaging, nakaka engganyo sa mga bata 🙂
I agree, mommy Levy! Worked wonders for my own kid when it comes to drinking water lang and not juice or choco drink.
It’s definitely a struggle to get our seven-year-old son to drink more water. I hope these cute bottles will encourage him to drink more. I’m sure he’ll like the Lighting McQueen one.
My nephew goes crazy over the McQueen bottle. Like he doesn’t wanna put it down and miss it. Hahaha! Could probably work for your son too, mommy!
Those bottles are surely super cute! 🙂 Maybe I should get those to motivate my kids to drink more water!
It’s what I did and it worked for my 1 year old who is such a Disney fan! <3
Ang cute ng bottles. So bagay for our little ones. BTW I think even me mapapainom sa cuteness nito!
I know! Pati ako actually sa mga baon niyang water umiinom. Hahaha!
I love the bottles! Luckily, my daughter favors water vs soda and powdered juices. And yes, water is good for the health that I make sure each member of my family drink 8 or more glasses a day (especially during summer).
I agree! That’s my daily goal too and I am happy when we achieve it! Ahaha! It’s great that your daughter loves drinking water more too! <3
I am having a hard time getting my preschooler to drink more water. I’ve tried this one too and even the cutest tumbler I can ever find. Sadly, it doesn’t work. 😭
I’ve heard the same story mommy. Let’s not give up! And remember to always be an example to them. 🙂
I’m glad my kids (we all are, actually) love drinking water. I think that is our biggest daily expense! hahaha Your daughter is future endorser. 🙂
That’s good to know! I am actually trying my best to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day! Haha! Thanks for your sweetness! She does love the camera. 😀
Wow, the list was spot on! Drinking enough water is important for everyone, not just kids. It can help us stay hydrated, maintain a healthy weight, and keep our appetites in check. Plus, it’s affordable! And most of all, drinking enough water can also slow down tooth staining. It’s amazing how something as simple as water can have so many benefits for our overall health and well-being.
Thanks for appreciating this blog. Always stay hydrated!
