This is what has been glued to my mind after a leadership seminar I attended at Victoria Station, Quezon City.
What does it take to be a leader? How can I lead my team better? What do I have to do to unite my members? These and a lot more have been my concerns as I cruise my everyday task as an HR Manager of our machining company of 25 employees.
I am a graduate of Mass Communication and have been on numerous leadership workshops required by the school, but it’s a total different story when you’re on the actual situation of leading people. People with different attitude, family orientation, or religion. How do I get to tie them into a group that has one common goal for themselves and the company- that is to grow and progress! Oh, there’s still so much to learn!
Leadership 101: A Seminar on Pursuing Team Goals byΒ Go Up Events was right on time!

The seminar was attended byΒ aspiring managers, entrepreneurs, job seekers, students and parents. 3 hours ran so fast that wan’t at all boring! All thanks to the knowledgeable and humorous speaker, Ms. Marie San Luis ofΒ The Corporate Pinay.
Ms. Marie is trainer/leadership coach and has been mentoring managers for the past twelve years. Β In herΒ engagement with various BPOs, she has observed different team dynamics including what works and not.

Here are the main points I collected during the seminar that are really beneficial to me on my current role in my company:
Invest in yourself
Dress one notch above
Learn the leadership language
Professional Communication
Perception Management
Walk the talk
Have clear goals
Do not fear feedback
Inspire yourself to inspire others
Find your happy place with the work you do
Be an example of positivity
Me-time!
Rant less & don’t post on Facebook
Be ready for the day
Find small ways to get to know your team
Set selfless goals, help your team

As Ms. Marie said, “If you are a leader, you don’t get up for yourself, you get up for your people.”Β Para kanino ka bumabangon, sabi nga ng NescafΓ©. π
Then, I will be ending my day examining:Β What did I do good? What could I have done better?
Attendees were given Certificate of Attendance after the seminar and there were also gifts for the early bird and the company with most number of attendees.

The need for leadership is important not just in the workplace but any organization including public associations, government, and in our homes. People with leadership traits have the vision, courage, and the ability to move a team towards breaking new ground.

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” – John Quincy Adams
Being a leader is such a strenuous responsibility.Β So much to do and think about! Itβs a lot of pressure to know that so many people are counting on you. This leadership seminar has enlightened me on my roles, my shoulds and shouldn’ts, and why I’ll Never Stop Learning.
Love,
Momma Nish
