So my grade school besties and I decided to have some bonding time one weekend. And since it was a last-minute planning spree, we found a good place to stay in Tanay, Rizal which is just about a two hour drive from Manila. <3
The Sierra Madre Hotel and Resort is probably one of the most affordable yet quality bed and breakfast me and my barkada has stayed for in our yearly travel reunion. The breathtaking views and the cool fresh air is just perfect for a peaceful and relaxing get-away for most of us who lives and works in the city.
So we toured around the area and it’s really great that Sierra Madre Hotel and Resortย is just around 15 mins. drive fromย El Patio Razon!ย We visit to checkout the very much talked about Kawa Hot Bath.

From Manila, here’s how to get to Sitio Maysawa. Brgy, Cuyambay, Tanay, Rizal by private transport:
From Marcos Highway, you’ll be passing byย Masinag ย > Cogeo > Boso Boso Resort. Then it’s just right after Palo Alto (beforeย Cuyambay andย Sitio Mayagay 2.) Checkout this Google Map!
There is an entrance fee of Php50 and the Kawa Hot Bath is Php300 per hour that’s good for 2 persons.

You’ll basically just immerse your ignorant self in a large wok or what we call kawa with literally burning wood to warm the water! And it is garnished with flower petals that is expected to give you an aromatic, relaxing experience. This really sounds something new!
Maternity photo shoot? ๐
They say the temperature’s usually cold up in Tanay, but we visited in May so it was really sunny!
Now, here is my personal judgement on this place:
SCENERY
Good. I love nature so much that I joined this trip even being 7 months pregnant. The view didn’t “wow” me that much but it is enough to relax my city wrecked eyes and mind. Plus, I am with my beloved friends. Everything is good when you’re with your friends! <3
EXPERIENCE
I personally believe this tourist spot has been overrated. Nothing extra-ordinary other than taking a dip on a huge kawa which is only good enough if you love taking pictures.
To be honest, I got stressed out, felt dizzy, sneezed a lot and my eyes has continuously been tearing because of the smoke! It was not relaxing at all! Siguro if walang siga mas na-enjoy ko pa but then mawawala yung point na live pinapainit ng umaapoy na kahoy yung tubig sa kawa. Hahaha! ๐

VS

After each had their individual photo shoot, lublob na kami in one kawa for like 10 mins. before our 1 hour was totally over. ๐
VALUE FOR MONEY
P50 entrance fee plus P300 for 2 pax in the kawa for me is a lot. There’s nothing else to see or do. No welcome drinks or anything. Restroom is not even convenient or clean. Wala naman kahit soap or towel na ino-offer. Luloblob ka lang talaga sa kawa and that’s it. I didn’t even smell the aroma of the rose petals dahil nga sa lakas ng usok!
Overall, I rate this place 6/10 just because the Kawa Hot Bath is a unique experience.
You must visit El Patio Razon and check it out for yourselves. This is just my personal experience I am sharing. I am not even speaking in behalf of my friends. ๐
If you are interested, they also haveย Kubo rental, Trampoline,ย Bonfire and Stargazing! Click here to see other attractions or activities they offer.
Happy touring around our awesome country!
Love,
Momma Nish
Hi. Where did you take a shower after your kawa bath?
Hello! Some of my friends took a quick shower in the available bathrooms. But Ysha and I went back to the hotel a little wet and took our shower there. ๐
